Intern Spotlight – Allie Bunting

Background

Allie Bunting is majoring in Public Relations and earning certificates in New Media and Music Business. Though she is in her last undergraduate semester at UGA, she will be continuing with Double Dawgs to obtain a Masters in Integrated Communications. Hailing from Peachtree City, where you can drive a golf cart anywhere you want to go, she loves to write and was involved in creative writing and journalism classes all throughout highschool. Therefore, she has always had her eye on UGA and Grady, as she knew they had the best journalism school in Georgia. It wasn’t until she started attending classes at UGA that she realized that she did not want to be a reporter or journalist and began thinking of other ways to apply her skillset and love of writing. As a people person, Allie immediately knew PR was the match for her. She loves all the possibilities and doors PR can and has opened for her.

Experience

Allie did not waste any time to get involved at school. Throughout her time at UGA and Grady, she has been a part of Infusion Magazine, TEDxUGA, Talking Dog and PRSSA. She worked as a copywriter on a team for Talking dog and helped create deliverables for Hotel Indigo-Athens. Beyond school, she has gained experience in professional settings. This past summer, she had a digital marketing internship with NCR. Allie’s main project involved conducting market and competitor research to find new ways to shift NCR’s current perception to a software and services led company. She also researched clients for a quick service restaurant campaign, analyzed the results and won/lost opportunities from digital banking webinars, and worked on weekly and monthly industry reports regarding brand perception. Reflecting on this experience, Allie found that presenting her project to the SVP of Marketing and CEO during NCR’s virtual intern expo was the most memorable component of her time there. She will continue to work with them this fall as a marketing ops intern.

In addition to her studies, Allie loves to travel. During the summer of 2019, she was fortunate enough to be able to attend the AdPR NYC trip in which a group of students toured numerous agencies throughout the city. That trip opened her eyes to all the possibilities of her future. She had always wanted to live in New York City, but never thought it was really possible until she met all of the Grady alumni working in these exceptional agencies.

“Networking with the alumni and seeing all the big things they were doing made me believe in my future and gave me a better idea of what I want to do post graduation,” says Bunting.

Future Goals and Interests

Bunting has a few different dream future career paths, the first being to work at a PR agency like Porter Novelli that does PR with a purpose. The second would be to work in digital marketing for a music company, such as Spotify, or a label like Universal Music Group. Either way, she wants to excel and become a leader in her field one day. She also wishes to inspire other girls and women to pursue a career in PR and/or marketing.

Advice for AdPR Students

Allie would advise undergraduate students that are considering pursuing a degree in AdPR to take a relevant elective or even the AdPR intro courses to determine whether they think it is a good fit or not. She has found that some of the projects in these AdPR classes have helped her achieve success in her internships and other work experience. Allie constantly praises the AdPR professors at Grady for working hard to provide students with real-world and applicable projects. She is particularly excited for her two classes this semester in which she will get to work with real-world clients. Most students at other colleges don’t have this same opportunity to be paired with clients who will actually use and value your work as an undergrad student.

Fun Fact

Allie loves music. She interned at a concert venue in Atlanta where she got to meet several artists’ managers and work at festivals where she stocked water in dressing rooms for people like Usher and Gucci Mane. She is now interning at a label in Atlanta called Streamcut Media where she sits in on studio sessions and helps with promotions for artists.

All in all, Allie Bunting has proven to be a passionate and hard-working student, and she is excited to continue to blossom throughout this year’s internship program.
