Eight advertising and public relations students from Dr. Karen King and Dr. Juan Meng‘s campaigns class traveled to New York City on Monday to watch a live-taping of Full Frontal with Samantha Bee. This semester, the class will focus on crafting a long-term social and digital strategy for TBS’ newest late-night television show confronting political and cultural issues.
The students got a firsthand look at their client’s work with VIP access to the taping inside CBS studios. They sat in the live audience, toured the set and met the show’s executive producer, head writer/showrunner and Samantha Bee herself.
They were able to ask questions about the leaders’ views of the show’s identity, their social media preferences and more. Senior public relations student Myles Haslam feels that the trip gave him a clearer picture of the show’s personality, which will help as they create social content for the show.
“Sam has so much energy and enthusiasm for this project and you could feel that radiating throughout the whole studio,” said Haslam. “Our class has been researching and studying this show for weeks, but the chance to…experience everything firsthand really personalized this project for us…we left this trip with an even greater drive to create a campaign that is really going to benefit the show and TBS. It’s become more than just a grade in a class now.”
Four teams of students will present their campaign strategies to TBS executives in April. Full Frontal with Samantha Bee airs on TBS every Monday at 10:30PM EST.
We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to the Full Frontal with Samantha Bee staff and TBS for their generous hospitality.
